PLEASANTVILLE

There once was a town with an absence of color
Where the only pastel was gray
The people who lived there, lived uninspired
Only existing from day to day
They didn’t cherish the past, or welcome the future
Time was stuck in the present
They didn’t feel happy, didn’t feel sad
Cause everything was just …pleasant

The people of Pleasantville never felt joy
Or envy of anyone better than they
But a way of comparison’s hard to employ
When everything’s black and white…and gray

When the door doesn’t open and the path isn’t clear
And you think “There’s no way I can get there from here.”
No sign of an exit, no way to break through
And your “do-over” is long overdue

Remember…It only takes one…one person one thing
One tiny click and the pendulum swings
Take one little chance, and see what it brings..
Just takes one little thing

Now as to our town of black white and gray
Where the people had no one to follow
A young man came among them with something to say
Who showed them their lives were hollow

He said “Nothing is real, ‘til there’s something you feel
How else can you know you’re alive?”
His words were surreal, but they had an appeal
Cause the people there started to thrive

And the people of Pleasantville started to see
Their world in a whole different way
The reds in a sunset, the green of a tree
Oranges and yellows in a dazzling bouquet

And from opening the door, to one little feeling
Life gained a new satisfaction
If nothing else, the one thing revealing
There’s traction in taking an action

When the door doesn’t open and the path isn’t clear
And you think “There’s no way I can get there from here.”
No sign of an exit, no way to break through
And your “do-over” is long overdue

Remember….it only takes one, One inch, one mile
One uncommon act, one unscheduled smile
Finding the thing that was there all the while
Just takes one little thing

Well,  I don’t live in movies and they don’t live in me
I’m looking to find different distractions
Why should I live vicariously?
I’ll be my own preview of coming attractions

Happiness never arrives on cue
Even love cuts like a knife
But at least I’ll discover my own point of view
Once I stop living in lieu of my life

Remember…
It only takes one, one question one guess
One fork in the road, someone to say yes
One act of love, one dream to unlatch
One checkered flag, one homer one catch
One  timely swing
Just one little thing
One little….thing!
