THE CHRISTMAS TREE BLUES

I got the Christmas Tree Blues.
Yeah I’m blue as any evergreen could be.
Oh, I got the Christmas Tree Blues.
Blue as any evergreen could ever be.
The kind o’ Blue Pine pinin’ blues
You only get when you’s a Christmas Tree.

Well first I was a pine cone,
With my mama high above.
When I grew up tall,
A family came,
Promised living room love.
But the tinsel and the fancy skirt,
And the star I wear up top,
They none of them mean nothin’,
Once your needles start to drop.

I got the Christmas Tree Blues.
Roastin’ Chestnuts ain’t got nothin’ on me.
Oh, those Christmas Tree Blues.
Roastin’ Chestnuts, they ain’t got nothin’ on me.
The kind o’ Blue Pine pinin’ blues
You only get when you’s a Christmas Tree.

Now poinsettia’s just a showboat,
With no sympathy to spare.
Mistletoe’s all high and mighty,
With his nose up in the air.
So I gotta stand up for myself,
When them plants all give me sass.
But your courage kinda stalls,
When all your balls are made of glass!

I got the Christmas Tree Blues.
I got the Christmas Tree Blues.
All them presents, they ain’t never for me.
I got presents all around me, but they ain’t never for me.

Now the ornaments and ribbons,
They’re just poor substitutes.
All that finery don’t mean nothin’,
‘Cause I’ve lost touch with my roots.
But the people want their sparkle,
The show only I provide.
They don’t know, while I’m lighting up
I’m dying inside.

I got the Christmas Tree Blues.
Ain’t no way I’ll make it ‘til Spring.
Oh yeah, those Christmas Tree Blues.
I guess I’m on my very last ring.
But if I never felt so blue,
No one ever woulda knew a tree could sing.
